A: People are becoming more concerned.
In July, we began asking survey respondents how concerned they are about a potential second wave of COVID-19 in the United States. Attitudes relating to a potential second wave were relatively consistent from July to October.
At that time, approximately 58% of respondents were “very concerned” or “extremely concerned” about a potential a second wave.
There is growing concern regarding a potential second wave. One month ago, 56% of respondents were “very concerned” or “extremely concerned”. Our latest survey reveals that 65% of respondents are “very concerned” or “extremely concerned” - an increase of 6%.
This growing concern may be reflected in how respondents are adhering to the CDC’s prevention practices. Within the last month, we observed an 11% increase - from 52% to 63% - in respondents who said they “always” maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others in public. In our latest survey results, 74% respondents “always” wear a mask in public – compared to 67% of respondents last month.

The latest results were based on surveys of 282 respondents from October 30, 2020 through November 2, 2020. October results were based on surveys of 302 respondents from October 2, 2020 through October 5, 2020. All surveys were conducted online from respondents in the United States.
