As a follow-up to our July 26 post, describing the impact of concerns for another surge in cases, we find that respondents have become more pessimistic over the summer.
Specifically, in mid-June, 74% of respondents believed that the “worst is behind us”, while of respondents 20% said they were “not sure” about what the future holds. In our most recent survey, 39% of respondents believe that the “worst is behind us” – a 35% decline since mid-June. In that same time period, we also observed a 17% increase among respondents who are “not sure” whether the worst is ahead or behind us.

Results based on surveys of 300 respondents from August 28, 2021 through August 31, 2021. All surveys were conducted online from respondents in the United States.
